Enhanced Apparent Density Characterisation

Artemis is pleased to introduce our Bulk Density Apparatus, a precision instrument engineered for the evaluation of "Apparent Density" in challenging particulate materials. Bulk density is an extrinsic material property defined as the mass of particles per unit volume, including the interstitial spaces they occupy.
This measurement is indispensable for characterizing powders, granules, flakes, and mineral components such as soil or gravel. Because bulk density can fluctuate based on handling and processing, standardized testing is vital for industries that must transport and process materials with high efficiency.
The Industrial Significance of Bulk Density
Accurate density data serves as a cornerstone for several critical operational functions:

  • Logistics & Transportation: Bulk density directly impacts material storage requirements and total transportation costs.

  • Processing Engineering: Data is essential for designing efficient equipment, helping to determine the appropriate size, capacity, and material throughput.

  • Formulation & Blending: In the food and pharmaceutical sectors, bulk density is crucial for accurately mixing ingredients to ensure consistent product quality.

  • Storage Optimization: Understanding varying densities allows for superior space utilization and a minimized storage footprint.

Engineering Specifications & ASTM Compliance
Our apparatus is meticulously engineered to meet the rigorous specifications of the ASTM D1895 (Method B)international test standard.

  • Standardized Funnel Design: The Method B funnel features a wide 2.54 cm outlet bore, specifically designed for materials that "cake" or "bridge" in smaller funnels.

  • Ideal for Coarse Materials: This configuration is optimized for granules larger than 3 mm or powders with poor flow characteristics.

  • Advanced Material Science: Funnels are CNC-machined from aluminum, polished internally for smooth flow, and finished with an anodized coating to reduce electro-static discharge.

  • Integrated Flow Control: The unit is mounted on a robust, stable stand featuring a dedicated material shut-off mechanism to prevent premature flow prior to testing.

  • High-Capacity Testing Kit: The system includes a standard 400 cm³ measuring cup and a specialized overflow catch tray to facilitate the clean recovery and re-use of excess feedstock.
